Vale; Cliffy Hunter
The passing of Cliffy Hunter 92 yrs. closes yet another chapter on a family association with our great Club.
The Hunter family name was a byword around Chelsea for decades, made famous by Hunter’s Fibro-Plasterworks in Blantyre Avenue just a few doors up from the Beardsworth reserve and the families strong and loyal association with the Chelsea FC.
Cliff’s father Bill, long time committeeman 1940’s / 50’s / 60’s and brother Ken, classy winger of the 1940’s were a popular family both on and off the field.
Cliff began his career with Chelsea FC in the late 1940’s, and played all throughout the 1950’s until retiring in the early 1960’s.
In 1959 having come from fourth position Cliff played in the Reserves losing Grand Final to Frankston FC, in 1960 Cliff captained the Reserves side into a Preliminary-final, only to lose to Mornington FC and in 1961 the Reserves missed out on the final four finishing in fifth spot.
Cliff was awarded Life Membership for his services to The Club.
After his football career finished Cliff became a successful businessman in the building industry, firstly in Victoria then in the 1970’s moved his Plaster-Board contractor and supply business to the Gold-Coast where he further expanded his successful business activities.
Continuing his association with Chelsea FC Cliff was still making recent visits his club to meet up with old-friends and watch the game in good fellowship.
A devout and lifelong Collingwood FC member Cliff and wife Elva enjoyed much traveling aboard during their early retirement years.
The Club passes its sincere condolence to Cliff’s family.
