Special announcement 1973 Third XVIII Grand Final

The Chelsea Football Club Inc has the great pleasure to announce to its 1973 U/18 Thirds past players, Coach John ‘Tich’ Brown, its officials of 51 years ago and to all present day members that following a recent submission by our Club to have the 1973 Grand Final result officially awarded to our U/18 thirds team, the Board of the MPNFL has upheld our submission and award the 1973-Grand Final to the Chelsea FC U/18 Thirds.

When the final siren sounded on that Grand Final afternoon 51 years ago the scoreboard read: Chelsea 8.13.61 to Mt Eliza 9. 6. 60.
Our Thirds team having completed the Home and Away season on an outstanding undefeated 22 games, won the Second Semi-final, defeating Edi Asp by 33 pts, then, went on to win the Grand Final by 1 pt, only to have the Mt Eliza FC protest the next day on a technicality and the Grand Final result has ever since been registered as a ‘no-contest’ by the League, that is, until now !. 

The Club wishes to thank the MPNFL Board, its league historians Ian Benson and Doug Dyall, peninsula sporting personality Brian McCue, and especially former Mt Eliza FC President Paul Vosti for their significant contributions to our submission that ensured the ‘right the wrong’ was ultimately achieved all these many years later. 

The Club congratulates coach Tich Brown and his team on winning the 1973 Thirds Premiership ! 

A cordial invitation to past officials and members of the team to celebrate your 1973 Thirds Premiership will be issued at a later date in the season.
