Team of the Century

What a marvellous player was Graham Savage. Perfectly built for football, ‘Sav’ plied his marvellous physique with a strong personal fitness program and a desire to perform at his peak to create a very special player.
Accepting the demanding role at centre-half-forward, ‘Sav’ was constantly on the move enabling star full-forward Dave Baker plenty of space to lead into. Both players were capable of scoring from distance and provided opposition defences with enormous headaches as they endeavoured to curtail the duo. A mark of ‘Sav’s’ standing in MPFL ranks was his automatic inclusion in interleague teams during this golden period in Chelsea’s history.
A Peninsula Best and Fairest winner, ‘Sav’ was seemingly marked harshly by the locals who appeared to have unreasonably high expectations of this wonderful athlete.
