A player who knew what it felt like to reach beyond the pain barrier; a young man who could push himself to the point of such exhaustion as to require assistance leaving the playing arena. It was a rare quality that combined with his match winning bursts of brilliance, enabled him to win three Best and Fairest awards before having his playing days cut short by a rare blood disorder.
