CURRENT STATUS
Life Member - 1962.
A card carrying member since 1952, John Brown has proven himself to be a loyal servant of the Chelsea Football Club and, to this day, attends almost every game played by the Seagulls.
‘Tich’, by virtue of his small build, was largely restricted in the positions that he could fill as a player and spent most of his playing career on the forward-flank or roving. It was in this position that he realised one of his boyhood dreams of playing in a first eighteen premiership in 1962. This was followed by a second success in 1963.
Despite these achievements as a player, it was really in the coaching sphere that ‘Tich’ found his true calling as he achieved consistent success for the Chelsea Club as an under-age coach. In this capacity he proved to be an inspiring leader and was instrumental in developing the footballing talents of such greats as Leigh and Kelvin Matthews, both of whom gained star status in V. F. L. ranks. Many young local footballers who went on to achieve senior success with the Chelsea Club can thank ‘Tich’ Brown for his astute guidance during their formative years.
The Chelsea Football Club has been a lifetime commitment for one John ‘Tich’ Brown and he has justly earned the honour of Life Membership for services rendered.
