 CHELSEA WINS THIRDS PENNANT

A feature of the ‘72 finals has been the tremendous standard of football produced by the thirds. And Sunday was no exception.
From the first bounce until the final siren the result was in doubt. Frankston had the advantage of the wind in the first quarter, but Chelsea, playing great football held a one-goal lead at the break
The Bombers performed equally as well as Chelsea against the wind in the second term and at half-time were only five points down.
With the aid of the wind in the third term Frankston took command. It had Chelsea defending desperately.
Although the Bombers had a handy break at the last change, most thought that they would be hard put to hold it, as Chelsea was coming home with the wind.
The Frankston defence was subjected to great pressure right from the bounce at the start of the final term, but was proving a stumbling block to Chelsea. The Seagulls found it difficult to break through. It was desperate football and both sides were going in fearlessly.
With about ten minutes left to play Chelsea goaled. It was close now - anybody’s game.
The Seagulls got another goal to take a narrow lead. The Frankston defence was playing brilliantly but could not completely deny the Chelsea attack.
Another goal to Chelsea in the last five minutes sealed the game for the Seagulls.
