1970 - SEASON REVIEW
1970’s THE DROUGHT YEARS
Coming into a new decade with yet another group of outstanding young players and a proven coaching staff, the Club had every reason to feel optimistic about their chances of continuing the success story of the sixties. Having lost two finals by narrow margins the previous year, the Gulls were buoyed by the fact that all three sides had figured prominently in the finals and there was sufficient depth of quality players to approach the season with confidence. Of course success doesn’t completely rest on one’s own planning. Other clubs were seeking the same prize and also preparing for the coming season. Reigning premiers Seaford would certainly challenge, but the Chelsea club were confident that they could wrest back the title, having felt slightly short changed the previous season. As it turned out, the Tigers had built on their successful side, and as the season progressed, were bordering on invincible. The Seagulls, however, had pushed them in both encounters and still considered themselves a chance as they approached the finals.

Brian Corrigan U-15 Premiership Captain and MPNFL Best & Fairest. We all know that it is a Team Game, but it is hard to imagine how one player could have a greater influence on his Team's sucess than Chelsea 4th's skipper Beau Corrigan. Voted the Legues Best & Fairest Player with an astounding 41 votes of a possible 54, he followed that up by booting 7 goals in a Best on Ground performance in the Grand Final. This followed excellent performances in the preceeding finals. It all added up to an amazing season from this young Player,
