1964 - ALF GRAY
ALF GRAY
Alf Gray, along with fellow trainer Charlie Ball, pretty much took full responsibility for Chelsea’s injury list throughout the fifties and sixties.
As a result, they became experts at spotting a malingerer. It was usually only a few minutes before the victim would be running for a cold shower to cool off his privates after some deep heat or, worse still, tiger balm, had ‘accidently’ been swiped across them.
The photograph shows Alf’s victory smile. He reserved it for premierships and the afore-mentioned occasions.
