Jim Gutterson was best known as Footscray’s Gardiner Medallist in 1962 and for taking a gift coupon from a city furniture store instead of the trophy. Time has smoothed the edges of the once rugged full back and now he is a silky, Sinatra style crooner with the band Just Friends. Today at the Blairgowrie Yacht Club (from 1.30 to 5.00pm) Jim’s big moment arrives when he will be joined by Dorothy Baker of IMT fame. By the way, Jim chose a coffee table for his flat instead of the medal—and he’s still got it.
