KEN KNIGHT - BEST & FAIREST 1960
Ken Knight in full flight was an exciting footballer with great balance and mobility.
Being of medium build he was able to manage different roles but was best suited to play in the centre. Able to anticipate the flow of play, he capitalised on making good use of the ball to provide team mates up-field plenty of opportunities.

A BLINDER OF A GAME

Len Park could have been anything as a footballer. I saw him play in a junior final against Mornington one day and he collected over forty possessions in a game that only lasted eighty minutes with no time on! It was the best game of football that I ever saw anyone play.
JOHN HIBBERT

FRANK HEPWORTH
Unobtrusive and quietly spoken, yet bearing an excellent sense of humour and administrative skills well beyond those of anyone else in the club, Frank became a significant part of Chelsea’s rise to power in the sixties.

Frank became the self-appointed recruiting officer for the club. The ‘quiet man’ would simply asked what was required, a ruckman, a full forward or perhaps a centreman is to your liking? It didn’t matter to Frank. He would invariably fill the bill and you could be assured that you were getting quality; the performance and commitment of his recruits attested to that.

Whether serving as Secretary, Treasurer or Recruiting Officer, Frank Hepworth did the job with pride and precision and was an extremely valuable member of Claude’s ‘inner sanctum’ between 1958 and 1964.

His skill in handling complicated calculations in his head was extraordinary as was his ability to assess the financial viability of any scheme or fund raising idea that may have been proposed. He could make an assessment of the most complicated proposal within minutes and provide sound reasons for its acceptance or otherwise.

In a business sense, Frank gave this administration a very sharp edge. He was an invaluable presence in the decision making processes that led the club to a dominant position in the sixties.
