CHELSEA GRIT

1949- ROY HART

A Stawell Gift winner in 1953, Roy Hart inherited his amazing athleticism from his father who was also a runner of some renown.
The ‘Chelsea flyer’ was active as a local sportsman from a young age. A talented footballer with wonderful natural balance and pace to burn, Roy also graced the fire track with distinction during the off months.
Roy played for Chelsea Juniors during the war years but enlisted in the occupation forces bound for Japan in 1945. Upon returning, he resumed playing football at Prahran followed by Chelsea seniors. But athletics was to become his love. He became committed to running, and, as we know, achieved great success.
