1922 CHELSEA RESERVE EVOLVES

On 7th August, 1922, the Borough of Carrum approved the raising of a loan of 1600 pounds for the purpose of acquiring an area of land at the foot of Ocean St, (now Blantyre Avenue), the purpose of this land being a recreation reserve and for effecting certain improvements thereto. On 22nd December, 1922, the Borough of Carrum Councillors approved the sealing of contract to purchase the Ocean Street land from Mr W. E. Booth for 1240 pounds.

In the following year , meetings to effect necessary improvements to the reserve were held by the Centre Ward Councilors with representatives of Chelsea’s Football, Cricket, Bowling and Tennis Clubs along with the Fire Brigade to arrange for the erection of dressing rooms and fencing of the reserve.
