CORCORAN Kevin "Corky" - 20th November 2016
22 November 2016
Vale Kevin Corcoran, Born 26th May 1935, Died 20th November 2016.
An apology for Ray Stuart who is working in Dubai and he sends his family condolences.
I acknowledge his input in to these few words about Corky and his involvement with the Chelsea Football Club.
Kevin Corcoran was known to all and sundry involved with the Club simply as Corky.
Corky came to our Club via the now recessed Edithvale Rovers Junior Football club in the early 1970s after his son Darren completed his junior football career.
Corky very quickly melded into the Chelsea Football Club family and proved his worth and soon got elected to the committee where he served for many years. IN those early days he had a job delivering bread for Tip Top bakers and was quite adept at diverting the odd free delivery van load to the Club for use at Sausage Sizzles, Canteen and kitchen , Some would say he fed half the membership with their bread supplies . He used to say that it was a case of a couple of loads for the Tip Top customers and a load to the Footy Club every Friday.
He served in many roles at the Club, however, his main interests were as Club Tribunal advocate, and managed teams from time to time, however his forte was his efforts for Managing our premier fundraiser as Bar Manager and he excelled in that area for 20 odd years.
Back in his early days he was a very regular imbiber and would say that the Bar Manager must partake of the product in order to ensure the quality of the beer to satisfy the patrons. Only trouble there after he finished his shift he tended to continue bending the old elbow until Stumps so to speak.
Memory suggests that about 20 years back he became a complete abstainer, however continued in the Managers role over most of that period.
Nothing was too much trouble to Corky and he always was one to go that extra yard in his endeavours for the Club he loved and valued so much and was justly made a life member for his efforts.
The Corcoran family, may have had its ups and downs over the years, however, have always stuck together, meanwhile, the passing of Corkys grandson Jake Corcoran in 2011 was a shattering blow to the family, and all associated with our Club and a vast number of friends.
Corky you have moved on, however, you will be forever remembered by those who knew you so well.
As a friend and his former Bank Manager I thank the family for allowing me to say these few words and I wish and pass on my sincere condolences. He will be sadly missed.
Kevin Howlett
